Houthi Rebels in Yemen Seize Cargo Ship in the Red Sea

Houthi Rebels in Yemen Announce Seizure of Alleged Israeli Cargo Ship in the Red Sea. They warn that all vessels associated with Israel will be considered ‘legitimate targets for armed forces.’

Houthi forces will ‘continue military operations against the Israeli enemy until the aggression against Gaza stops and the heinous crimes against our Palestinian brothers in Gaza and the West Bank cease,’ said group spokesman Yahya Sare’e in a statement on X.

On Monday, the rebels released a video purportedly showing the seizure that took place on Sunday.

The footage depicted masked armed men jumping onto the moving ship from a helicopter and forcibly detaining crew members. Palestinian and Yemeni flags were raised on board. It was not immediately possible to verify the clip.

Israel stated that the ship is British-owned and Japanese-operated, describing the incident as an ‘Iranian act of terrorism’ with implications for international maritime security.
